WHAT THE HELL IS THE POINT OF ALL
THIS?
This question has kept me awake for more nights than I’d like to admit. First with a trickle then with a flood, this thought of existential dread has engulfed my art practice.
Navigating the complexities of human experience, particularly the in-betweens of joy and grief. With its arm around my throat in a headlock, existential dread forces me to confront the aching softness of existing.
At the heart of my practice lies a mantra adapted from philosopher Clarice Lispector’s Aqua Viva: “I want fruit in all its succulence, fruit without sadness, fruit without fear.” This phrase encapsulates my pursuit of pure unadulterated joy, without fear of what's to come. To embrace life with all its kisses and bruises equally.
Ultimately, I am seeking a shared journey of rebellion. By embracing the bittersweet, we illuminate the richness of our experiences, Against all odds, we will persist. Let your teeth rot with sweetness, use decay as your weapon, everhoping, never ceasing.
