ASL- Language Card System

2025, Digital prints on plastic and cardstock,
2.5 x 2.5 inches; 11 x 8.5 inches

I am influenced conceptually to promote inclusion and accessibility. There is a swift kick to my jugular to speak up for you–to say louder for those in the back! –while you grow into your strength to speak up for yourself.

This is a language card system designed for a young non-verbal child in a bilingual family. Made with flexible and durable ‘kid-proof’ plastic, the cards use American Sign Language (ASL) and category colors to build language through visual association. The system helps the child memorize the hand gesture shapes as signs before formally learning ASL.

A clear and tactile system with visual contrast and simplicity; The cards prioritize learning through a practical approach. The cards are ergonomic, educational, waterproof and tear-proof, with rounded corners for safety.

I am a problem solver, a do-er; I love language and all its possibilities. This passion project exists at the intersection of accessibility, communication, and design–while teaching ASL to a family unfamiliar. To communicate is to exist—to be seen, to be heard, to be understood. Through design, this system grants a young man autonomy and connection, changing the way he communicates to his world.

This is design with purpose, design that speaks.
