Briley Kotler (American, b. 2002) is a
Chattanooga-based artist pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. With a practice rooted in painting, her mixed-media, collage and installation-based work explores themes of classism, femininity, grief, and societal expectations informed by the South. These pieces often incorporate found materials and historical iconography. Kotler has received multiple awards for her work, including Best of Show at the 2021 Lipscomb University Middle Tennessee Art Competition, Best of Show and First Place Painting at the 2021 Monthaven Arts and Cultural Center Student Art Show. More recently, she was awarded the 2024 UCF Shuptrine Art Scholarship. Her work has been exhibited in Slow Simmer (2024), Nature’s Dialogue (2024), and For What It’s Worth (2024), as well as UTC’s BFA thesis show. Beyond her academic work, Kotler is actively building her professional practice, organizing exhibitions, and seeking opportunities to expand her presence in the local art scene. She plans to apply to artist residencies, and pursue a career in art institutions while preparing for an MFA program.
