Bushel and a Peck is a collection of photographs and objects assembled as a tribute to my family. Objects, memories, people, experiences, and words connect families and generations. Through this body of work, I long for home, a connection to my family, and attempt to reconstruct the memories that make me who I am.
Through every family, sentiments are
passed down generation after generation. My photographs bring tattered memories back to life and connect the older generations with the new. I rediscover smaller pieces that exist within my family's collections, and display images of them to honor the generations they’ve traveled through. Tangible photographs and objects pass down memories, mannerisms, and lessons from generation to generation, making conversations to share sayings from those who have passed and creating new bonds with the youngest children.
“I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck” is a saying that my grandfather, known to my family as Poppy, would always say, that has lived on through decades. My work is for him, for my grandmother, and for my family—past, present, and future.
