The Sunroom

2025, Assemblage Installation,
10 x 10 x 10 feet

The Sunroom is an assemblage installation exploring how the mind summons memories. When reminiscing about my childhood home, the sunroom is where I go. It's the place that I spent the majority of my time growing up, and what I feel I can remember the best. However, the best isn't necessarily the most accurate. Memories become altered at every instance of recalling them– maybe specific parts come through, while nothing else translates with clarity.

The Sunroom takes the concept of remembrance and deploys it as a physical space; an immersive experience centered around memory. The architectural structure is plastered with collages and photographic images that are fractured and obscured, while the audio attempts to channel something within itself. Lights pulse with the sound, revealing the imagery for a mere moment, only to be shrouded with darkness again. The Sunroom is a space where you as the viewer become stuck in the process of recalling something…or nothing. It takes an experience that is typically internal and individualized, moving it outside of the body as a physical experience for others to participate in.

I welcome you to my memory…I welcome you to The Sunroom.
