The Subtle Feeling of Belonging

2025, Digital Pigment Print,

8 x 7 feet

I have spent much of my life moving from house to house, never staying in one place long enough to call it home. In recent years, I have turned to travel, finding an unexpected familiarity in places I had never been to. There is a profound sensation—an unspoken connection—when a new place feels like home with just a single walk through its streets. It’s a fleeting yet decisive moment, a surge of comfort in the unknown.

The Subtle Feeling of Belonging is a visual and poetic exploration of these moments. Influenced by writers like Orion Carloto and photographers Evelyn Hofer and Inge Morath, I have documented the places, people, and details that evoke a sense of belonging. My work draws from poetry’s ability to capture emotion and photography’s power to preserve memory, blending the two to tell stories of home found in unexpected spaces.

This series spans the UK, Spain, Portugal, Germany, and the US, focusing on color, architecture, and human connection. Through glimpses into the lives of others, I invite viewers to reflect on their definitions of home, finding beauty in the details that make a place feel familiar.
